Media Interview Anonymity Contract

This form of contract has been used successfully in the past for press interviews involving members of Sexaholics Anonymous (SA). It is provided here as an example only and not as an encouragement to grant such interviews.

Contract

at................................................ (place) on ...........................................(date)

Between ................................................................................ ("The Publication")

represented by ............................................................(Name of Reporter or Editor)

and............................................................................................................

........................................................................................... ("The Interviewees")

It is agreed that:

The Interviewees will provide their anonymous personal testimonies about sexual addiction and recovery for an article in the Publication, subject to the following conditions:

  • The anonymity for the Interviewees will be safeguarded by obscuring any recognizable personal information e.g. names, age, address, family size, etc.;
  • Photographs of the Interviewees will neither be taken nor published;
  • The Interviewees will not be represented as spokesmen of SA but only as individuals giving their own personal experiences;
  • Before publication, the proposed article will be submitted to the Interviewees for review and amendment as they deem necessary;
  • Apart from the once-only publication of the interview, re-use of the whole or part of the interview text is not permitted;
  • The article will give a realistic, positive image of the purposes of SA and its members;
  • At the end of the article, readers will be provided with SA's local phone number, e-mail address and website URL.

Maintenance of the Interviewees' anonymity is of paramount importance. Loss of anonymity could harm the Interviewees' sobriety and therefore be life threatening. Public recognition could also disturb and complicate the ordinary life of an interviewee, as outsiders may misunderstand the true nature, workings and benefits of SA's recovery programme. Failure to protect the anonymity of the Interviewees would render the Publication liable to prosecution.

By signing below, each party agrees to be bound by these conditions and acknowledges receipt of their copy of the contract.
