Early in SA I did some serious housecleaning but failed to realize that I had to make certain resolutions and then carry them through. Somehow I thought that God would simply remove my shortcomings and that would be that.

Nothing much happened...

But recently working Steps 5-7, my sponsor, having helped me make lists of my character defects so exhaustive that they have me gasping for air, then sat me down with a fellow sponsee to list all the assets that I would LIKE to have - an asset for each of my defects...

These assets, I have learned, are what I get to practice for the rest of my life. This is where the expression "working on" them really does apply. Meanwhile my HP deals with all those character defects that He (not I) sees fit to remove, just as He is doing with my addiction to lust, food, "relationships", self-importance and all the rest....but leaving plenty of others behind in order to keep me humble...

Now, things are beginning to change at last....
