Essay Article Submission

Editorial Philosophy

Essay is the international publication of Sexaholics Anonymous, and is known as SA’s “meeting in print.” Submissions reflect the experience, strength, and hope of our members. Opinions expressed in Essay are not to be attributed to SA as a whole, nor does publication of any article imply endorsement by SA or by Essay. Articles are invited from SA members and SA groups, although no payment is made and material may not be returned. All articles submitted become the property of Essay and are subject to editing.

The principles of SA’s Twelve Traditions guide Essay's editorial philosophy. In submitting articles, please remember that SA’s sobriety definition is not debated, because it distinguishes SA from other sex addiction fellowships. Essay is not a forum for non-SA sobriety or non-SA principles. Essay is not a fund-raising mechanism, although from time to time SA’s needs may be made known. Articles should observe common standards of friendliness and good taste. Discussions involving therapy or religion are discouraged. When an article speaks for a group or Intergroup, it should have the prior approval of that group or Intergroup.

Length and format of articles

Articles may be of different lengths, from one-paragraph anecdotes, to one-page meditations, to five- or six-page member stories. Manuscripts sent by e-mail should not be sent in the body of the e-mail, but sent as attached files, saved in “Word,” “Plain text,” or “Rich text.” Articles sent by regular mail should be typed, double-spaced. Handwritten manuscripts should be written clearly on one side of the paper. All articles must be in English. Please include an address, telephone number, or e-mail address so that authenticity can be verified. This information will remain confidential.
