It seems to me that, if I pray FOR something, then I am not fully surrendered. In Step 3, I made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God. If I pray for anything other than that – any desired outcome, object or circumstance, I am really taking back my will and asking God to arrange my life the way I want it.
I am occasionally asked by others to pray for them or those they care about, and I do. But my prayer is the same as the one I pray for myself – that we may all have knowledge of God’s will for us and the power to carry that out.
After clearing away the wreckage of the past, with Steps 1-9, and maintaining my spiritual condition, with Steps 10-12, it is the only prayer I need.
